BAND HISTORY

125 years of Kirkintilloch Pipe Band

 

Kirkintilloch pipe band was founded on the 12th of november 1888 and has since maintained a proud association with the town of kirkintilloch. It's existance is due to the many volunteers who over the years,have acted as band members,tutors and members of the  committee with the support of family and friends many thanks goes to the committee  throughout the years, for attending to the business side of the band.

 

The band also owes its existance to fund raising activities organised by band members; sponsorships and donations recieved from the local council and private sector companies,as well as small businesses.

Without this financial support we would cease to exist. Our local newspaper ,the kirkintilloch herald, has records of our band dating back as far as march 1897. These include a mixture of activities raging from highland games,gala's,armistice parade,kirkintilloch canal festival,Brodick highland games and competition achievements as well as international trips.

We,as a band,are a well established and respected contributor to the fabric of community life within kirkintilloch and its surrounding areas.

We realise that in this day and age so many other attractions appeal to the young and for a number of years we have struggled to keep the band together,with only six pipers and four drummers. However, in the past six months we have welcomed a total of sixteen learner drummers/pipers and two  experianced pipers!

Young pipers and drummers are the lifeblood of the band and we will continue to give them as much help and support as we can. Whil we want to develope excellent bandsmen/women,we also appreciate the importance in helping them develope as a person. Training and performing in a band helps to instill teamwork,patience,loyalty,commitiment and self respect - all applicable to any careeer path wich they may choose,lasting frienships are made,to share and to keep traditional scottish music alive, may arise !

On behalf of kirkintilloch pipe band i would like to thank our present members,for their commitment,and dedication and service to the band and hope we continue to be  to be in existance for another 125 years !...............
